Gasthaus Friday Fish Fry

Rating: 4 out of 5 fish

The Gasthaus has built a system on turning out their Friday fish fry. When I called in a to-go order, they essentially knew I was calling for fish. They went through their script to get everything they need for your order and instructed me to hit the hostess stand to pay and then they directed me to a window off of the kitchen. The kitchen staff comes to the window, says your name and hands you your order. Efficient.

I was impressed with how they include EVERYTHING in your order... fish, fries, pancakes, bread, applesauce, tarter sauce, etc. The to-go prices reflect the inability to have the all-you-can-eat at $12.95. In-house the price is $14.95. We might have to have their fish fry at the restaurant just to see how their family style meal pans out with the all-you-can-eat.

We enjoyed the fish. I would, and will, eat it again.

Master Z's Wednesday & Friday Fish Fry

Rating: 3 out of 5

We decided to try Master Z's fish fry because we read good things around the web. This is a hard one to rate because I didn't like the breading because it was spicy, but my husband did like it. It's much different than what we've experienced. It's a light breading - not greasy.

They have cod, perch and Bluegill available and I opted for the perch. Both of us would not get the perch again. Next time we will try the cod. If they have the same batter on all of their fish, I probably won't like any of it. But my husband will. So I will update our rating with both of our opinions when we get the cod... for those of you who like spice and those who don't (like me!).

Eagle Spring Pub Wednesday & Friday Fish Fry

Rating: 5 out of 5 fish

While I do agree that everyone has room for improvement, including Eagle Spring Pub, I really enjoyed the fish fry I had here. Not many places include the baked fish in the all-you-can-eat special. Not only did we get all-you-can-eat fish, they also bring more of the french fries too.

The only real issue I had here was that they don't take reservations and the place was PACKED. They had some back tables in a small room and on a back deck where you could sit and wait with a drink. But it seems 'outta sight, outta mind'. While we were on the waiting list, we were skipped because they failed to check the sitting area where we were waiting and thought we had left. Minor issue.

Their fish is also available for carry out and they ask that you call ahead.

I will go back here. :) I am looking forward to the return of summer where I can go out and do some canoeing right in back of the restaurant and then hit the fish fry.

Suhmer's Saloon Friday Fish Fry

Rating: 4 out of 5 fish

This is, right now, one of my favorites. While I often get a baked option when available, I actually opt for the regular fish fry here at Suhmer's. The breading they use on the fish is very tasty and crunchy and doesn't make you feel like you've been swimming in grease when you are done. The regular fish fry is all-you-can eat, and we have only had this at their restaurant, though carry out is available. The restaurant doesn't seem to get as full as others do on a Friday night.

The fish comes with a choice of potato pancakes or french fries, and they bring rye bread, homemade applesauce and coleslaw to your table before your meal comes.

Other options besides the regular fish fry is Baked Cod, Lake Perch and Walleye.

Matteo's in Waukesha

Rating: 4 out of 5 fish

Matteo's fish fry is one we've gone back to many times. I get the baked cod, which is a large piece (almost brick-like) with a little seasoning on top and comes with drawn butter. I would recommend the baked cod for a little more healthy of an option compared to your typical Friday Fish Fry. My husband gets the regular Matteo's fish fry which comes with a Sicilian-style breading and is quite tasty. We have always gotten this meal "to-go" since it is close to home and their is always a full house at the restaurant. We will go back again (and again).

Here is their fish fry menu:

PESCI DEL VENERDI
(Friday’s Fish)
